Do you have …? Is there …? Can I …?

Do you have a kitchen?

Yes, we have a fully equipped guest kitchen that you can use at any time. There is a cooker, a microwave, a kettle, a toaster, a fridge etc. as well as pots, pans, dishes, cutlery

Do you have WIFI?

Yes, of course – for everyone who can’t do without … 😉
WIFI is free and available anywhere in the house.

Do you have rooms with ensuite bathrooms?

No, sorry, we don’t have rooms with ensuite bathrooms. The sanitary facilities are only a few steps from your room. You share them with other guests. They are, of course, getting cleaned every day.

Are there other guests in a shared room?

Yes, in our dormitories (4-bed rooms) you book a single bed and then share the room with up to 3 other travellers. Unless, of course, you come with a group of 4 people and book the whole room …

Can I book one bed in a double room?

No, our double rooms can only be booked by 2 people travelling together – if you are traveling alone you have the option of booking a bed in a 4-bed room or a single room.

Are there bed linen?

Yes – of course you can rent them from us.
Bed linen cost a one-off fee of 3 euros/ person.
Sleeping bags are not allowed but you can bring your own sheets to save the fee (you need a bed sheet, a duvet cover and a pillow case)

Are there towels?

Yes and no towels should be brought along if possible. If you have forgotten to bring one, we also have a towel for you.

Do you have a hairdryer?

Yes– just ask and we will show you where to find one …

Do you have an iron / ironing board?

Yes – just ask us and we will be happy to bring it to you.

Are there lockers?

Yes – in the dormitories there is one locker for each guest, which is large enough for your valuables and a laptop (34 x 34cm). You need a padlock for the locker – but we can also lend one to you if you don’t have your own.

Do you have a bike shed?

Yes, we have a lockable room where you can store your bike safely and dry.

Is there a TV?

No, nowhere …

Is there a washing machine?

No, but it is only a 2- or 3-minute walk to the next laundromat (opening hours: Mon – Sat 06:00 am – 11:00 pm / Sunday 11:30 am – 06:15 pm)

May I smoke in the hostel?

No, smoking is prohibited within the entire building.
You can smoke outside the front door or in our courtyard …

Can we bring our dog with us?

No, unfortunately not …
At first it was possible in our hostel, but then we have repeatedly had bad experiences (with other guests who were either afraid or allergic), so that unfortunately your four-legged friends are no longer allowed to stay with us 🙁

Is the hostel wheelchair accessible?

No, unfortunately not.
It is a converted old building, there is no elevator and the bathrooms and toilets are not spacious enough for a wheelchair. Unfortunately, even if we would like to change this, the structure of the building doesn’t allow it.

Can we bring our friends / other people to the hostel?

No – the hostel is only for guests who stay with us. If somebody brings you or picks you up, it is of course no problem if this person comes in briefly.

Can we come to you with a group?

No since we are a very small hostel, we are especially suitable for single travellers, couples and small, quiet groups of up to 4 people.

Should I book with you in advance?

Ys, if you want to make sure that there is a bed / room available, it is definitely better. We are just a small hostel and otherwise, especially in summer, it may be that we are already fully booked. If you decide to come to us at short notice, it is best to give us a quick call to inquire so that you don’t come by in vain (+49) (0)731-70 82 559

How do I book a room / bed with you?

It is best to fill in the reservation form on our homepage (“Reservation”),

then we have all the data / information from you that we need for a reservation. We will answer you as soon as possible (but our reception is not open 24 hours …).
If you tick “make a reservation” we will book the desired room for you, if available, and you will receive a booking confirmation from us. If there are no more rooms available your reservation will be declined.
If you don’t tick “make a reservation” or if you just send us an email then we will give you information about availability on your chosen dates and can answer your questions. You can then decide whether or not you want to book.
If you haven’t received any response within 24 hours, please check your spam emails.

For short-term inquiries, it is best to give us a call (during our opening hours): (+49) (0)731 – 70 82 559.

How can I cancel my booking? Which costs arise?

To cancel your booking, simply send us an e-mail to info@brickstone-hostel.de
With an e-mail by us which confirms your cancellation, the booking is cancelled.

Cancellation fee:
8 days or more before your arrival: no cancellation fee
7-4 days before your arrival: 50% on the complete booking (without bed linen)
3 days -1 day before your arrival: 80% on the complete booking (without bed linen)
Day of arrival or no-show: 100% on the complete booking (without bed linen)

We only have to charge you the fees if we are unable to rent out your bed/room to other guests. Thus, it makes sense for all parties involved to cancel your booking as soon as you know that you won’t be able to come. This increases the chance that we will be able to give your bed/room to other interested guests and you will not have to pay anything.

Arrival and Departure

Is your reception open 24 hours a day?

No. The reception is always open in the morning between 10 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. and in the afternoon between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

You can also arrive outside these times without any problems – we just need to know in advance.

When is the earliest time to check in?

The earlierst time to check in is 10 a.m.
The rooms are ready to move in around 1 p.m. at the latest. If they are ready earlier you can of course move in earlier. If not, you can leave your luggage with us and wait in the kitchen or in the common room (with a cup of tea or coffee). Or you just go out, have a first look at the city and then move into your room later.

When can I move into my room?

Your room will be available for you at 1 p.m. at the latest – if you arrive earlier: we will be in the hostel from 10 a.m. – we can then let you in and you can either just leave your luggage with us and come back later or you can wait in the kitchen / lounge until your room is ready.

When do I have to check out at the latest?

You should have left your room and the bathroom by 11 a.m. at at the latest so that we can clean and prepare the rooms and bathrooms for the new arrivals. But you are very welcome to still have breakfast and / or leave your things with us at the hostel and pick them up later.

If you would like to extend your stay, you should also let us know by 11.00 a.m. (we will be happy to do that, provided we still have space …).

How do I get into the hostel outside your opening hours?

When you check in, you will receive a door code from us with which you can enter the house around the clock. For your room, you will receive a key (which you should not forget to return upon your departure …).

Do you have parking spaces?

We have space for one car in our backyard. If that space is free, you are welcome to park your car there. However, we do not reserve the space – first come, first served …

Otherwise there are free parking spaces in “Schützenstraße” approx. 400 meters further out of town (from the railway bridge on, on the left side of the street and then at the end of the “Glacis Park” in “Schießhausallee”).
For the parking spaces in front of the house you have to pay between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. (parking ticket, max. 2 hours), Saturday from 6 p.m. and all Sunday it is free of charge. In the cross-roads, you can generally park for 2 hours with a parking disc …

Please do not park in “Stadtgasse” (this is the small cross-road where our entrance / front door is located) – these are all private parking spaces and we will otherwise get into trouble with the neighbors or they will call the towing service …

Prices and Payment

What are the prices for one room/bed?

All prices are per person per night and there is a one-time additional fee of 3 euros/person for the bed linen:

4-bed-room: 21 euros/night/person (+ 3 euros for the bed linen)
3-bed-room: 24 euros/night/person (72 euros/night for the room + 9 euros for the bed linen)
Double room: 25 euros/night/person (50 euros/night for the room + 6 euros for the bed linen)
Single room: 35 euros/night/person (+ 3 euros for the bed linen)

Is there a discount for children?

No – we charge the full price for each bed required, there are no special prices for children. However, we do not charge anything extra for the very little ones who are still sleeping in bed with you.

Why does the bed linen cost extra?

We would like to offer you the cheapest and fairest price possible – instead of adding the bed linen to the overnight rate, we will only add it to you once on your first night with us. The following nights are therefore cheaper. We only have to wash the bed linen once and to make the beds only once – so if you stay longer, we have less work and less costs and therefore you pay less. And if you want to save the 3 euros for bed linen entirely, you are also welcome to bring your own bed linen (sheets, blankets and pillow cases) – but please (for hygienic reasons) only fresh bed linen from home. Sleeping bags are not allowed.

Are there discounts for longer stays?

No – we are a backpacker hostel and therefore we offer only short-term stays. The maximum length of stay with us is 7 nights.

Payment

On arrival – and please note: we only accept cash payment.

Location

Ulm? Neu-Ulm? Are these 2 cities?

Yes, Ulm and Neu-Ulm are 2 cities and they are even in 2 different federal states. Ulm in Baden-Württemberg, Neu-Ulm in Bavaria, separated only by the river Danube. Bavaria is on the southern side of the Danube, Baden-Württemberg on the northern side.
But it feels like one city – from the hostel it takes just a few minutes to be on and across the Danube and in the middle of the beautiful old town of Ulm.
Neu-Ulm itself also has its charms (in addition to the beautiful view of Ulm …) and bakeries, supermarkets, restaurants, pubs etc. can all be reached quickly.

Where is the hostel located?

The Brickstone Hostel is very centrally located in Neu-Ulm and only a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Ulm. In just 2-3 minutes you are on the banks of the Danube (where you can let your feet dangle in the water and from where you have a great view of Ulm’s old town) and in about 10 minutes at the Ulm City Hall and the Ulm Minster. It is a 10-minute walk to Neu-Ulm train station and a good 20minute walk to Ulm train station (or 4 stops by bus).Bakeries, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants can all be reached in a few minutes by foot.

Is it loud at night?

Ususally not.
But: the hostel is small and everything is close together and the house is an old building. We have completely refurbished and renovated it, but it has retained its charm of an old building and everything creaks a bit and you may sometimes hear the other guests within the building. For this reason, we also do not accept groups and advise our guests to be quiet after 10 p.m. It actually works well. And IF other guests should be loud at night, just let them know and in our experience, the guests are usually very understandable. At night, there is relatively little traffic in street in front of the hostel and, especially when the windows are closed, you hardly hear anything. But my tip for EVERYONE when traveling and especially for multi-bed rooms: it is never a mistake to have some ear plugs in your luggage …

How far is it from the train station to the hostel?

If your train stops in Neu-Ulm hält, it’s best to get off there. From there, it is less than a 10-minute walk to us. Or you can take bus number 7 and get off after 2 stops at “Donauklinik” or after 3 stops at “Amtsgericht”.
Most of you will arrive in Ulm. From there it is about 20 minutes on foot if you take the shortest route or 25 minutes through the city centre. Or you can take bus no. 7 (towards Willy-Brandt-Platz), the 4th station is “Schützenstraße”, from there you walk back about 50 meters and you are at the hostel. You can check your bus / tram connection here: https://www.ding.eu/de/fahrplan/fahrplanauskunft/

I come by Flixbus – how do I get to you?

The Flixbus station is a bit outside the centre, you arrive in Böfingen. The connection to the center is good unless you arrive very late at night.
You can either take bus no. 4 to “Rathaus” (town hall), from where it is less than 10 minutes on foot to the hostel. Or you can take tram line No. 1 (or bus No. 4) and change to bus No. 7 at Willy-Brandt-Platz and get off either at “Donauklinik” or at “Amtsgericht”. From there it is a 1-2 minute walk to us.
You can check your bus / tram connection here:
https://www.ding.eu/de/fahrplan/fahrplanauskunft/

How much do I have to pay for a bus / tram ticket?

Prices within the city area of Ulm / Neu-Ulm: Single ticket: 2.40 euros (mobile phone ticket: 2.20 euros, child (6-14): 1.40 euros)
Day ticket single: 4.40 euros
Day ticket group (up to 5 people): 8 euros (Mon-Fri only valid from 8.30 a.m., Sat / Sun all day)
You can get the tickets in the buses, trams, at machines or via the app on your mobile phone.

Probably until the end of 2022 you will travel FREE on Saturdays on all buses and trams in the Ulm / Neu-Ulm city area!
